Skills Training & Development Skills Training & Development

McHur Care Skills & Training Development Programs
McHur Care offers two programs that use an individualized treatment planning process to identify the goal areas the client and field staff will focus on to build independence. The supervisor carefully matches staff to the client. Their treatment plan is reviewed and revised quarterly to ensure progress is being made.

Supervisors and field staff are trained in crisis intervention and CPR/First Aid. In addition to these trainings, case managers are provided with quality clinical supervision and training opportunities intended to build their knowledge of the latest practices in working with adults who have mental health challenges.

Life Skills Development Program
  • Develops individual plans with the member and/or guardians
  • Assists with reduction/prevention of psychiatric hospitalization, homelessness, residential treatment, or criminal justice involvement
  • Develops client-centered goals around activities of daily living (i.e. community integration, coping strategies, money management, safety, medication regimens, and psychiatric/medical appointments)

The Skills Development Program
In addition to the above, this program also offers enhanced access to community resources to promote independent living (i.e. employment support, educational advancement, and socialization).

Crisis Intervention Crisis Intervention

What Is Crisis Intervention?
A crisis intervention is an immediate and short-term emergency response to mental, emotional, physical, and behavioral distress. Crisis interventions help to restore an individual’s equilibrium to their bio-psychosocial functioning and minimize the potential for long-term trauma or distress.

Crisis intervention services are provided within the community to meet the client where they are. Crisis intervention is not intended to provide psychotherapy or similar treatment but offers a short-term intervention to help clients receive assistance, resources, stabilization, and support.

What Is A Crisis Situation?
A crisis can refer to trauma, a natural disaster, mental illness, medical illness, victimization, grief, or relationship changes. A crisis can be difficult for anybody to cope with, and many times crises are recurring situations for an individual suffering from mental illness or a substance use disorder.

*It's important to note: If you feel you may be a danger to yourself or others, please contact 911 immediately!

Crisis intervention services are intensive, community-based, one-to-one services provided to an individual who requires services to control acute symptoms that place the individual at immediate risk of hospitalization, incarceration, or placement in a more restrictive treatment setting.

The intervention:
  1. Is in response to a crisis
  2. Seeks to reduce or manage symptoms of serious mental illness or serious emotional disturbance; and
  3. Seeks to prevent admission of the individual to a more restrictive environment.

Crisis intervention services include:
  1. An assessment of the dangerousness of the individual to self or others
  2. The coordination of emergency care services;
  3. Behavior skills training to assist the individual in reducing distress and managing symptoms
  4. Problem-solving
  5. Reality orientation to help the individual identify and manage his or her symptoms of serious mental illness or serious emotional disturbance; and
  6. Providing instruction, structure, and emotional support to the individual in adapting to and coping with immediate stressors.

Eligibility Criteria:
  • Be enrolled in and actively covered through Texas Medicaid.
  • Experiencing a crisis
  • Complete a crisis assessment

Understanding these developmental challenges is key to providing effective therapy for teens.

At McHur Care, we use various psychotherapy techniques to help adolescents navigate emotional and behavioral difficulties. • Group counseling with peers
  • Family therapy to improve communication

Family Systems Support Family Therapy

What is Family Systems Support?
This type of support focuses on strengthening family relationships, improving communication, and creating healthier home environments.

While much of psychotherapy and psychoanalysis focuses on the individual, family therapy is distinctively different. Instead of evaluating the needs of one person, this therapy emphasizes the relational aspects of people to each other, especially those with close ties such as parent/child, sibling, or spouse.

Individual therapy evolves a therapist/client relationship, from which to work on significant issues of the sole person, but family therapy takes a holistic approach toward looking at the way that a whole family unit or couple works, and the areas of dysfunction that require intervention.

Family Systems Support with McHur Care
At McHur Care, we have theoretical approaches to family therapy and many diverse groupings of people that might make up a family therapy session. A couple without children might easily enter couples counseling or family therapy to learn how to cope with their differences and deal with communication problems, or many other reasons.

This therapy could also occur with adult siblings and parents, foster children and foster parents, or family units of several generations. Therapists in such a setting may work with the various members of the family all together in session and sometimes work with one or two individuals for a session or two.
McHur Care offers mental and rehabilitation services to children, young adults, adolescents, and their families. In most cases, these services are provided within the individuals' usual environment such as their community, home, school, or other location appropriate for the needs of the individual and their family.
