School reluctance is one of the most common patterns parents bring to us this time of year. It often shows up a few weeks into the school year, when the novelty wears off and the real routine sets in. It doesn't mean something is seriously wrong with your child, and it doesn't mean you've done anything wrong either. It means your child is struggling with something. Once we understand what that struggle is, we can start working through it together.
At McHur Care, we work with children ages 3–17, teens, and adults on the skills that make situations like this more manageable. Instead of talking about feelings endlessly, we focus on teaching what to do when those feelings show up.
